About the AI

Effective July 11, 2026 · Draft pending legal review

You are talking to software, not a person

The SmartBell coach is an AI assistant. It is not a certified personal trainer, physician, dietitian, or physical therapist. It cannot see you, watch your form, or examine you.

How your plan is actually made

Your plan's training variables — sets, reps, rest, effort (RIR), and progression — are produced by a rules engine, not invented by the AI. Those rules encode published exercise-science evidence, including meta-analyses and professional position statements (for example, on training volume, proximity to failure, protein intake, and resistance training for older adults). The AI's job is to explain and personalize; it does not originate prescriptions.

What the AI can get wrong

AI can be confidently incorrect, misread your question, or give advice unsuitable for your body or condition. Treat its output as a knowledgeable starting point — not an authority, and not a substitute for a professional who can see you.

Which AI, and what we send it

Chat replies are generated by Claude, an AI model operated by Anthropic PBC. To answer each question we send your message, your training profile (including any injury flags), your current plan, and any notes you have shared. See our Privacy Policy.

What the AI will not do

It is instructed to refer you to gym staff or a medical professional in those cases, and to tell you to stop and seek care if you describe symptoms such as chest pain, faintness, or severe shortness of breath.

Human help is always available

Your gym's staff and certified trainers are there for anything the AI cannot safely handle. Please use them.
